Nuro has been around for some time now, however, currently all the press is focused on Nuro R2's autonomous vehicles for pizza delivery - specifically with the Pizza Giant: Dominos. We decided to focus our research more on Nuro as a company and their plans are quite interesting.

THE NURO R2: FOR STUFF, NOT PEOPLE

This Nuro is a vehicle developed specifically for delivering items, not humans - unlike the Amazon Zoox we told you about a while back. With that, Nero has put a specific focus on this vehicles build and they plan for it to be a much safer version of errand running now and in the future.

NURO'S WORDS SAY IT BEST

"With our autonomous delivery service, we can bring healthy groceries, prescription drugs, hot food, and other locally sourced goods to areas of your city that are currently underserved."

SAFE AND STREET LEGAL

The R2 uses tech that can spot children and dogs and it will not drive in bike lanes or sidewalks, it is only designed to drive on the street with other vehicles. Plus, The R2 is fully licensed, registered and insured to operate on public roads in certain areas.

Nuro R2 is the first-ever self driving vehicle to receive an approved exemption from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

DOMINO'S PIZZA AND CHIPOTLE

Clearly the R2 has gained the attention of the food service industry. Domino's is already deploying the R2 in Houston Texas and Chipotle has actually invested in Nuro in March.
